David Sandall
Music director
David began studying the harpsichord and organ at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He continued his study of the harpsichord and early music performance in the Master of Music program at Montreal's McGill University, where he studied with John Grew. In order to finish his studies, he travelled to Amsterdam in 1990 to study harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt.
David grew up in Nova Scotia, where he is well-known as a soloist and chamber musician. He has given many solo recitals, lectures and workshops, and toured frequently with Musique Royale. In 1991, he toured the Netherlands and Belgium as soloist with the Barok Ensemble Voorschoten. In 1996, he moved to Toronto, where he has played with several of the leading early music ensembles, including the Toronto Consort and the Aradia Baroque Ensemble. In 1995 David joined the baroque/Celtic crossover ensemble Puirt a Baroque, which has toured across Canada and in the United States. His work with Puirt a Baroque also included recording award-winning CDs and music videos. Presently, he plays with Duo L'Intemporel and the Tempest Baroque Ensemble in Halifax.
As an organist, David has held positions at the Halifax churches of Calvin Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Anglican Church and Steven’s Road United Baptist Church. Presently, he is the Music Director at Kimbourne Park United Church in Toronto.
We are blessed to have David continue to share his gifts and talents with the congregation. He has the patience of Job. Sometimes when our voices are not that united, just not quite in pitch, David in his gentle ways can keep us singing.
David brings to Kimbourne not only his vast experience but also a wonderful spirit of openness and experimentation to help us worship and praise in prayful and meaningful ways.
