I’ve never been to church before!

A primer on Kimbourne Park

Kimbourne Park is not full of dragons or ogres and no alarms will go off if you have not been to church for a while. However, we understand that it might be a little scary for those who have never been inside before.

If you are still nervous after reading this, contact the church office and we will arrange for someone to meet you and show you around.

Worship service is Sunday at 10:15 AM.

To begin with, you need to know where we are. The Location page has directions and parking information.

Doors, doors, doors. Have you ever seen so many doors? Two main doors are used on Sundays. The southeast corner door from the street (Door A) brings you into the gathering area of the church. Some use the northwest side door (Door B), which will lead you to the downstairs meetings area and into the front of the church.

Our building is wheelchair-accessible — we have a handicapped parking pad at the front, next to a ramp to the basement. Kimbourne Park now has an elevator to ferry passengers between the basement and the main floor.

Most church services are 60 minutes, or a little longer if communion is involved. If you need to leave during a service, no one will complain if you slip out.

When you come into the building, someone will greet you in the gathering areas and offer you a bulletin with the order of service in it. You will find hymnbooks and bibles in the pews.

You can sit where you would like: front, middle or back. You will notice that some of the back pews are roped off — that’s because we truly are a friendly church and like to sit together and help each other sing and pray together.

If you have children, they are welcome to sit with you for the first part of the service; then, they will be invited to the front to sit with the minister during children’s time. If your child would like to join the church school, they may follow the group downstairs and continue the celebration, or they may stay up in the church.

If you are not sure what to do, just follow everyone else or, if you prefer, you can just remain seated throughout the service. You are under no obligation to join in any of the singing or even to like the music. We know we don't all have the same musical tastes and we don't expect you to either.

You are not expected to contribute to the work of the church (that's our responsibility), so don't feel embarrassed to pass the collection plate on without putting anything in it. Many church members contribute directly through their bank accounts, so you won't be the only one just passing the plate on. If you do wish to contribute an offering, you can use the envelopes in the pews indicating your name and address so we can issue a tax receipt to you.

After the Sunday morning services, tea, coffee, juice and of course cookies are served in the church hall. “Just follow the crowds!”

Should you need to use the “facilities”, two unisex toilets can be found downstairs at the front of the church, near the side entrance. One washroom is in the back corner at the end of the hallway, and off the big church hall is a larger washroom with diaper-changing facilities and an additional, kid-sized toilet.

For meetings other than church services, it is usually best to use the northwest door marked “B”. Just follow the signs, as sometimes several activities are happening at the same time and you don’t want to end up in a room full of active children when you were looking for the quiet prayer meeting.
