Bio - Toronto Historical Bowling Society
Written by Nicole

What is THBS you ask? It is the Toronto Historical Bowling Society of which I am a bowler and a member of its executive.

The league, which is currently 40+ members strong, was formed in 1983 by a small group of local gay and gay friendly people looking to have fun and socialize. All gay positive bowlers of all bowling averages are welcome.

This year we are proudly celebrating our 40th year! The documentary by Rob Pearson which you will be seeing on Sunday, April. 30th of KPUC’s pre-Pride celebration is an effort to share with its viewers the friendly, inclusive, non competitive nature of the league.

With interviews with several THBS bowlers the film is a testament to the longevity and the gift that THBS has been to the gay/gay-positive community.

I, along with my partner Dee, joined the league in 2015 as a means to “do something together” and to make new friends. In the film, you will hear the stories that myself and others who speak of the “family” that has been created for so many and you will hear the stories of bowlers who have experienced the welcome, the inclusivity and the support that they have received as members of the league.

“Good Luck and Good Bowling”, created by Rob Pearson, is a unique film about a unique part of the LGBT+ community’ and shares with viewers how a small group of people with a simple vision have impacted it for decades and have opened the door for so many to live their lives authentically, and I, for one, am grateful.
